              Graffito Plan

This design is related to the successful DIAMOND hull form and is optimised for best performance in breezy conditions. GRAFFITO needs to be built light for best performance and we would welcome enquiries form builders able to offer top quality moulded hulls. This shot gives an impression of the overall design. The overhangs are longer and lower than the other SAILSetc Ten Rater designs to give better performance when hard pressed as well as good directional stability. The plan shows the anticipated layout for foils and ballast. The conventional rig has a relatively large main/headsail ratio that has proved effective on other boats in stronger conditions as it places a smaller requirement on mast stiffness when loaded up.

The hull is longer and a little heavier than the designs aimed at best performance in light winds. The additional displacement takes into account the heavier build weight of a planked boat. Some care will be needed to avoid hollows in the surface of the hull especially in the overhangs. The plan shows reduced sections suitable for 3 mm planks giving a 2.7 mm finished thickness after fairing.

Waterline length is chosen to suit wind speeds in the range 6 to 16 knots. Builders planning to use the boat in predominantly stronger winds than this could stretch the stations by 2 or 3% and another 150 grams displacement provided they are prepared for the poorer performance below 6 knots. Builders expecting to compete in lighter winds most of the time might try building with the stations spaced 2 or 3% closer with a 150 gram reduction in displacement.

A raised foredeck is shown on the plan as we have found this works well with a lowered deck around the mast where our 12b gooseneck fits nicely into the space between lowered deck and the mast gate on the foredeck. Moulded deck, item 311f, will help fabricate that part of the deck. The fin box/mast tube moulding, item 344d-cf, will provide a neat solution to adding these items without adding too much weight. Go to Parts/Hull to view those items.

The stern overhang has an emerging chine. The plan shows positions for foils, ballast and rig. Best performance will be found using the SAILSetc fin moulding, item 370a.
